Isidore of Miletus

Isidore of Miletus
   Architect, engineer, and mathematician who taught physics at the universities of Alexandria and Constantinople (qq.v.), and who assisted Anthemios of Tralles (q.v.) in the planning and construction of Hagia Sophia in Constantinople (qq.v.), the great church commissioned by Justinian I (q.v.). Isidore is not to be confused with his nephew, Isidore the Younger (q.v.).
